Structural Characteristics of Conventional Metal Separators

In order to improve the performance of conventional metal separators, experts and scholars have designed and manufactured various types of metal separators over the years, which are mainly divided into six categories.

1. Diffusion type metal separator

The main characteristics of the diffusive metal separator are that about 10% of the air is drawn from the dust outlet of the metal separator to improve the separation efficiency. It has two advantages: one is that the dust on the lower wall of the separator does not accumulate and the bottom blowing is reduced; the other is that when dealing with viscous dust, the blockage of the dust outlet can be avoided.

2. By-pass metal separator

The characteristics of bypass metal separator are that the solid particles gathered in the upper dead corner (i.e. the upper ash ring) of the separator are sent directly to the dust outlet by bypass to reduce the leakage of short-circuit flow and improve the separation efficiency of small particles.


3. Metal Separator

Metal separator is also called tornado metal separator. Its structure and working principle are shown. Dust-containing gas is introduced from the lower part, and then turns into upward rotating airflow through the guide vane. The upper part introduces the secondary air with downward rotation. The rotation direction of the wind is consistent with the rotation direction of the middle dust-containing airflow, which can strengthen the rotation intensity of the dust-containing airflow and make the solid particles produce greater centrifugal force and be separated. At the same time, the separated particles are discharged through the dust annulus under the action of secondary air, and the particles discharged upward from the center are purified.

4. Multistage Separating Metal Separator

The main characteristic of the flow field of this kind of metal separator is that the solid particles in the inner metal zone can be separated again before being discharged from the separator. The double exhaust pipe metal separator manufactured by our company can give the particles in the inner metal a chance to be separated again, and the total separation efficiency is very high. The main characteristics of the former Soviet Union's efficient metal separator are three coaxial overflows. When the fluid enters the cylindrical part, the solid particles are thrown into the inner wall by centrifugal force, then the heavy and large solid particles spiral down, discharged through the bottom outlet, and the light parts are discharged from each overflow outlet. The metal separator with this structure can improve the treatment capacity and the purifying degree of the liquid, and reduce the internal hydraulic loss.

5. Central Solid Rod Type

Xu Hongqing of Zhaohua University measured the internal flow field of the metal separator with a laser velocimeter. It was found that in the central area of the metal separator, the tangential velocity decreased while the turbulent dissipation was strong. This shunt increased the pressure loss of the separator and reduced the performance of the separator. Accordingly, a solid core rod was added to the M4 double exhaust pipe type separator core to replace the forced vortex. The test results show that the central strong turbulence zone has been completely cleared, and the pressure loss coefficient decreases by 33% under open-loop operation.

6. Multifunctional Metal Separator

In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of solid control equipment for oil drilling fluids for a long time, on the basis of a large number of investigations and studies on solid control equipment at home and abroad, Jianghan Institute of Machinery is developing a new type of high efficiency and multi-function metal separator, which consists mainly of cylinder, cone, slurry feeding pipe, body side arm, rotary arm and central pipe. And the overflow pipe and other components. This separator not only has the advantages of simple and reliable conventional metal separator, but also has the characteristics of multi-stage diversion, control of liquid concentration and stable operation conditions. It can separate large solid particles and small colloidal particles from drilling fluid at the same time, so as to control the solid particle size distribution of drilling fluid in an ideal state. It can also remove chemical contamination of H6 core 81 rod and keep good rheological properties of drilling fluid. The product has achieved remarkable results through flow field research and performance test. In the case of drilling fluid with the same flow rate, the working pressure of multifunctional metal separator is 16.7% lower than that of conventional metal separator, the underflow density of separation is 20% higher, and the solid content of underflow is 214.5%. Both theory and practice show that the multi-functional metal separator is a promising oil solid control equipment with high efficiency, low consumption and strong separation ability.
